Biography

Advisor: Dr. Monica Biernat

Research Lab: Stereotyping and Social Judgment

Emily is a third-year Social Psychology PhD student. She obtained her BA in psychology from Rhodes College in Memphis, TN. After graduation, Emily spent two years in Washington, DC working on the Research and Insights team at a public communications firm.

Research

Emily's research focuses on stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination. She is specifically interested in how stereotypes implicitly influence decisions made in the workplace, such as in hiring, promotion, and compensation decisions. Emily is also interested in the effects of organizational diversity initiatives, as well as counteracting the potentially negative affective consequences dominant group members sometimes feel in response to such initiatives.
