Fee Policies:
Early on in a person's contact with the Clinic, the assigned therapist discusses the matter of fees. Except for students, who are charged a "flat" fee of $10.00 per 50-minute session, fees are based on a sliding fee scale depending on the individual's income and number of dependents. On occasion, other considerations (e.g., heavy medical expenses) may also be taken into consideration. The benchmark fee is $45.00 per 50-minute session, but in recent years, the average fee has been between $10.00-$11.00. To qualify for fees below the $45.00 benchmark, individuals are expected to provide some proof of income.
Fees for psychological evaluations are established at $200.00-$500.00 per evaluation (cost varies according to type of evaluation), with half paid "up front," and half paid upon receipt of the report.
How is billing handled?
Each month, clients of the clinic receive a billing statement that details any outstanding balance left over from previous months and itemizes all services, charges, and payments received during the current billing month. Clients are expected to pay off their balance at least once each month. However, clients often find that it works best if they pay each time they arrive for a session, and we strongly encourage them to do so.
Previous clients who want to resume services at the clinic are expected to make arrangements for paying off any existing balance at the time services resume.
What are clinic fees used for?
Although Kansas taxpayers subsidize the clinic by providing office space and staff salaries, the clinic is self-supporting in virtually all other regards. All office equipment (computers, printers, copying machines), office supplies ( stationary, envelopes, stamps, paper supplies), clinic furnishings (chairs, tables, wall hangings, carpets), clinic equipment (videotape machines, TV monitors, video cameras), computer software (word-processing, accounting, test-scoring), training materials (video- and audio-tapes, books, professional demonstrations) and some salaries (summer salary for a 1/2-time graduate assistant) are paid for through the fees we collect.
The clinic's ability to operate while continuing to charge the modest fees outlined above is directly dependent upon our ability to collect a high percentage of the fees we do charge.
