Undergraduate: Apply
ADMISSION TO THE MAJOR IN PSYCHOLOGY APPLICATION FORM
Applications for admission to the major may be submitted at three times
during the academic year: the first two weeks of September (between
September 1 and September 15), the first two weeks of February (between
February 1 and February 15) and the first two weeks of June (between
June 1 and June 15). In order to apply for a major in Psychology, you
must submit the application. The application form asks for your name,
KUID number (7digits), and e-mail address. It also asks a number of
questions pertaining to whether you have met the necessary requirements
for applying for admission to the major at this time. Please be sure to
complete the entire form before submitting it for review.
The following are qualifications for applying for admission to the
major.
For students first entering KU in the Fall 2006 or thereafter, PSYC
102 is required in addition to the following requirements…
For students first entering KU in the Summer 2006 or prior, the
qualifications for applying for admission to the major are as follows:
1. Must have completed at least 30 semester hours of college course
work.
2. Must have completed at least one semester (at least 9 hours) of
courses at KU.
3. Must have an overall GPA of at least 2.00.
4. Must have completed PSYC 104, either PSYC 300 or one of the research
courses (310, 618, 620, 622, 624), and at least one but
not more than three of the psychology core courses (318, 333, 350, 360,
370, 380), or their equivalents.
5. Must have a GPA of 2.50 based on grades in PSYC 104, PSYC 300 or PSYC
310, 628, 620, 622, 624, and all of the psychology core
courses (318, 333, 350, 360, 370, 380) completed at the time of
applying. If a student has taken both PSYC 300 and a research course
(310, 618, 620, 622, 624), both will be computed in the GPA.
If an applicant meets these qualifications, he or she is admitted to the
major. If there are special issues, members of the Undergraduate
Advisory Committee consider the special circumstances and render a
decision.
There is a space on the application form for you to present other
matters you would like the committee to consider in evaluating your
application. If, for example, you wish the committee to take into
account the progress you feel you have made over the course of you
education, or you feel the need to explain a particularly poor grade or
set of grades, or you wish to make the committee aware of certain
special circumstances that apply to you, then this is the place on the
application form for you to do so. The Department of Psychology is
committed to promoting cultural diversity in its programs, and guided by
principles of affirmative action in making its decisions.
